Cheers to New Years. It doesn’t have to be December 31st (slash) January 1st to reminisce about the good times you’ve had at the turn of each New Year. More specifically, this video highlights the fact that it’s never too soon to recall NYE shenanigans that should have been forgotten long ago.
Through the video for “Freak Out,” Tapes ‘n Tapes, the four-piece band from Minneapolis, MN, find an opportunity to recount the details of a fairy tale 1995 New Year’s party. Complete with all the 1995 accoutrement you can handle (i.e. Homemade “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” sweatshirt, Pistons Jersey, and pagers), the VHS* is a tell-all narrator closely tracking the exploits of a certain female that is having her way with the sparkling wine.
*What the fuck’s a VHS??
Highlighting typical drunken behaviors such as trailer park “Iron Chefing,” puppy-doggery, high-maintenance bathroom commandeering, straight-from-the-bottle champagne swilling, and Twister, the video strikes a nerve with just about anyone who has ever partied like the world’s ending.
The reality is that usually, and correct me if I’m wrong, the world DOES NOT end the next day. Rather it goes on quite normally…except for you. You lie on the floor (kitchen, bathroom, garage…it doesn’t matter) and wish that the world had ended. Meanwhile your liver is icing its back, drafting a Letter of Resignation, and plotting to escape via the “back door.” 364 days later, that memory has been recorded over like an old VHS tape*.
*Serioulsly, what is he talking about?
This video doesn’t shed any light on the assailant’s condition the following day, but do stick around for the end to find out why that tape wraps up the title of “best wedding gift ever.”

Do you remember what a VHS tape is? Do you know what “VHS” stands for? Impart your knowledge and let me know your favorite VHS tape growing up. Tough choice for me, but I’m going with Michael Jordan’s Playground. Sometimes I dream….
