I may not be the biggest Dresden Dolls fan ever, but I am a big fan of the guy who snapped these pictures at their recent show in San Diego (December 30th | House of Blues). I have seen them live though, and they put on a hell of a show. Their cabaret-on-meth sideshow is worthy of the cult following that manifests at their performances and equally enthusiastic audience participation is practically mandatory. Knowing they will quite literally be “upstaged” by Amanda Palmer, the crowd is free to do almost anything, including stilt-walking and fire-breathing. It all adds to the theatrical dramatics that the duo feeds off of. Saying Amanda is “a little dramatic” is like saying Perez Hilton is “a little gay.”
The other half of the DD duo, Brian Viglione manages to step out of Amanda’s shadow with his own captivating sense of stage presence. His over-the-top drumming demands equal attention and as proven by the photos he also has an equal amount of armpit hair as his counterpart.
Enjoy the photos courtesy of Mr. Swor and treat yourself to some performance art when they visit your town.
