What starts out as a southern-friend ramble ends up the rollicking cousin to The Rolling Stones “Sympathy for the Devil.”  Each features an extended segment of searing guitar solo and raucous honky tonk piano.  The Stones’ added “woo-woos” and Mick’s high-pitched howls are among the superfluities that flesh out their record’s waning moments. Deer Tick, on the other hand, opts for zero vocals and no-nonsense speed when pounding out the last minute-and-a-half of “Mange’s” scruffy saloon rock.   It’s an all out auditory assault that could power the General Lee and set Confederate flags flying.

Separated by more than 40 years in recording history and 3,300 miles of Atlantic Ocean, these tracks prove that what goes around comes around.
