Big Boi | Tangerine (feat. T.I.)

5 Comments 05 | August | 2010

In years past we have been encouraged to “shake it” in numerous ways.  In 2003’s “Hey Ya,” Andre 3000 suggested “like a Polaroid picture.” Then in early ’04 the Ying Yang Twins recommended “like a salt shaker.”  Well according to the grimier half of Outkast, 2010 is the year of the tambourine. And not to be outdone by his predecessors, Big Boi rounds out the analogy by actually employing the instrument in question throughout this track.  Don’t worry if you didn’t notice it upon first listen, lyrics like, “…and I also like her throat action, with a passion,” can be distracting.

As Big Boi and guest stars T.I. and Khujo Goodie rhyme their way through the lustful sex jam, they are accompanied by a lingering guitar riff and tribal drums that dispel any notion of bashfulness.  Why am I not surprised?  Seriously, name the first shy rapper you can think of…

…and no, Shai does not count as rap.

Not that I am hung up on shaking it like any inanimate object in particular, but given my lack of musicianship and my propensity for bruising, shaking it like at tambourine isn’t necessarily a change for the better.  In all likelihood, my it will be remaining motionless, hoping to go unnoticed, as it is white.  Who knows, maybe when my rap album is done in 2011, you be chanting, “Shake it like my asthma inhaler.”  Until then, if you’re “all about your fuckin’ cream”….shake it like a youknowwhat.
