Fang Island | Davy Crockett

7 Comments 08 | June | 2010

Perhaps the residents of Fang Island intended to fashion a thoughtful yet sonically ambitious song praising Mr. David Crockett, or maybe, just maybe, they knew they could do so much more.  Methinks they knew better, because the end result is an anthemic, dual-guitar, monster ballad/eulogy to the King of the Wild Frontier.

Thanks to an awesome ensemble of whoa-ohs and thunder-claps (which sounds like a disease contracted at an outrageous frat party), they are able to shed the doubt cast by an introductory minute eerily reminiscent of Cindy Lauper’s, “Time After Time.” And although the unintelligible lyrics are brethren to those of “Louie, Louie,” the listener is left only with the idea that maybe the national anthem is overrated and outdated.   Am I right?  Can we get some electric guitars up in that bitch?! Would’ve made the Winter Olympics’ gold medal ceremonies something to watch.  Somebody call Rick Rubin.
