The Antlers | Burst Apart

Considering my previously scathing dissertation on #1 fanaticism displayed at The Antlers live show last year, I find myself in the difficult position of being whole-heartedly obsessed with their new album, Burst Apart, but not crossing the boundary into “that guy” territory.  For the purposes of this post I’m choosing to let loose with my profound love of The Antlers on the premise that my unabashed raving online is nowhere near as intrusive or annoying as being in the presence of an intoxicated and overzealous front-row-fan who is on the verge of forcefully climaxing through denim. Atmosphere | The Family Sign

Sean Daley has been rapping under the moniker “Slug” for over two decades.  Joined by Rhymesayer’s prevalent DJ/producer/beat-maker extraordinaire Anthony Davis (aka. “Ant”), the duo has authored an anthology packed tight with angry women playing hostess to Slug’s sloppy, drunken antics and an even tighter fan base hanging on every lyric.  Consistently drawing content from sexual exploitation, terrible personal relationships, and the greater Minneapolis area, Atmosphere has forged its reputation and painted it gold. It’s never too early to pass judgment and make much warranted recommendations on this year’s offerings to date.  Despite some solid offerings, there are no albums on the market that have sealed a place in history as far as I’m concerned.  However, these ten albums bare the fruit of both (relatively) old and (relatively) new musicians and are worth a tasting. Radiohead | The King of Limbs

So by now you’ve heard of a little band called Radiohead.  Over the course of 25+ years these five gentlemen have developed an uncanny ability to shatter perceived musical boundaries and are now playing by their own rules. Continue Reading

Near Death Experience | 2nd Chances

Death from Above 1979 is one of the bands that rank near the top of my “Missed Opportunities” list.  Having read this tragic blog entry back in 2006, I really felt that I had let a chance to see something awesome go by the wayside.  Thus, imagine my delight when I saw that they are damn-near headlining Coachella!  Ok, “headlining” may be an overstatement, but check out the font size!  (Sunday) Continue Reading

Danger Mouse + Jack White | When In Rome

6 Comments 22 | February | 2011

The saying goes, “when one door closes, another opens.”  In the case of Jack White, a GIANT door recently closed when he confirmed that The White Stripes are calling it quits. So, by the “Conservation of Door” principle stated above (aka, Newton’s 4th Law), Jack should be introducing a few new projects, right?

Sure enough, he continues to dabble in just about every sector of the music industry, and most recently his talents have collided with super-producer Brian Burton (aka, Danger Mouse). Continue Reading

Elliott Smith | An Introduction

4 Comments 04 | February | 2011

The man I’m about to introduce needs no introduction…Elliott Smith.  My ironic contradiction plays on the title of Smith’s newest release and is a monumental fake out for those who would wish for a real introduction to the genius behind this compilation of hits.  Plagued in life by depression and addiction, Smith famously, or infamously, took his own life* in October of 2003.
